About
Anna Bowen is a farm consultant, freelance writer, and dairy maid from West Wales. She and her partner are contract farming 300 spring block calving cows on a grazing system. She is also a 2021 Nuffield Scholar, exploring the topic "Cow Calf Contact: Dairy’s Ethical Future?”
She has written for Vice, Horse & Hound, Farmers Weekly, FourGoods, Veterinary Record, Horse & Hound, Farmers Guardian, In The Country, Jwrnal, British Farmer and Grower, Whickr, and a number of other publications. In 2013 she won the Guild of Agricultural Journalists' John Deere Training Award, and in 2016 The Ecologist's Climate Change Essay Prize. Anna also won the English Chair at her school Eisteddfod, a moment of triumph forever marred by the trauma of standing on stage in a purple cloak while a sword was drawn overhead.
This website started as an agony aunt column for the Royal Agricultural College student newsletter under the name ‘Ask Aunt Annie’. Anna spent four happy years there reading for a BSc (Hons) and an MSc, and being dubbed the "unofficial Head Girl" by a governor. There is a tree bearing her name on the drive. Anna's greatest achievement is being a Country Life frontispiece, although being dumped on the day of publication slightly tarnished the experience.
Anna is available for all writing projects, from one-off features and interviews to regular website copy, and freelance commissions from PR companies and brands. Her work covers equestrian, agriculture, sustainability, and women’s lifestyle, and she has experience of first person, op-ed, interviews, features, and technical pieces.
Anna is also available as an after-dinner or event speaker, and has experience in facilitating farmer discussion groups.
